SASL adds V.34 data modem to software line

The most recent ITU data modem standard is well along in development at Signals and Software Limited (SASL). Support for the V.34 modem standard (including V.8) is an important addition to the ever-increasing portfolio of software for TI DSPs available from the U.K.-based company.

Using advanced techniques such as channel probing, the V.34 modem determines the characteristics of the connection and selects the most suitable modulation parameters, thus achieving maximum throughput for any given connection. The standard supports more than 20 different data rates up to 28,800 bps. Extensions taking the maximum data rate up to 33,600 bps have now been agreed on and will be published this year as V.34 (November 1996).

SASL 's current processing load estimates, based on fixed-point C code simulation of the design, show that multiple channels will be possible on a single TMS320C54x DSP operating at 50 MIPS or above. The software, which will operate at an 8-kHz sampling rate, will be available off the shelf under license 2Q97.

SASL currently offers software for all the V. series data/fax modems, the G.711/G.722/G.728, G.729/G.729Annex A/FR-GSM speech coders, the RefleXion Acoustic Echo Canceller, plus many additional telecom functions such as DTMF Tx/Rx. In-progress development includes V.34/V.8, IS-54, DSVD and Tetra.
