Active noise control silences aircraft cabins
Aircraft passengers now find it easier to converse, thanks to Digisonix, Inc. A leader in developing adaptive digital signal processing technology, Digisonix combines proprietary active sound and vibration control (ASVC) algorithms with TMS320 DSPs to deliver active control solutions to customers such as Lord Corporation of Cary, NC. Recently, Digisonix granted Lord an exclusive, worldwide license to use Digisonix Technology for aerospace applications. Digisonix provides software services to support Lord 's aerospace products. Last year, Lord introduced the NVX Active Control System for the King Air family of aircraft and currently is expanding the product line to serve Conquest, Cheyenne, MU-2, and Turbo-Commander aircraft. The noise produced by the propeller blades on these aircraft is difficult to suppress with traditional acoustic treatments, which typically result in 1-to-3-dB reductions. The NVX system can reduce this noise by as much as 9 to 14 dB. The NVX system employs a TMS320C3X-based DSP and Digisonix software to drive a set of speakers, producing a sound field inside the cabin that is a mirror image of the propeller noise. When the two waveforms interact, the noise is cancelled. Passengers are pleased to discover how easy it is to hold conversations and even conduct meetings without struggling to be heard. t |
