IAT bases high-definition video on 'C80

With a family of Multimedia Codec Boards based on TI 's TMS320C80, IAT is addressing the market for high-definition video imaging. The Multimedia Codec VISION & LIVE™ universal, the second product in the Swiss company 's product line, is aimed at several vertical markets.

Key applications in the medical range are Tele-Microscopy and Tele-Endoscopy, for which IAT and Olympus Europe have developed marketable solutions. Medical experts have indicated that, in the field of Tele-Diagnostics, where an outstanding image quality is essential, the IAT system provides a video quality they have not seen before with comparable solutions. With the enormous opportunities of high-quality Tele-Microscopy and Tele-Endoscopy, Olympus Europe has been able to fulfill their customer requirements in various application fields.

The Tele-Service project TELec is another remarkable project for 'C80-based codecs in the industrial sector. IAT technology has been selected to provide international platforms for Tele-Service solutions. The main advantages consist in the reduction of stand-still times for machines and systems, and lower costs due to faster and better qualified Tele-Maintenance possibilities.

The 'C80 is optimally suited for image processing due to its internal structure (four DSPs, one RISC). A main feature of the 'C80-based codecs is the possibility to realize the recommended telecommunication standards (H.320, JPEG, MPEG etc.) completely via software. This increases the flexibility and life-cycle of the platform.
