1394 Native Bridge Link Controller IC

TI's new 39C1011 1394 Native Bridge Link Controller IC is a key part of a chipset enabling an ATA or ATAPI storage device such as a hard disk, CD-ROM, DVD or tape drive to be interfaced to a PC via the IEEE 1394 serial bus.

39C1011 Chip

By combining the device with a TI 1394 PHY transceiver and TMS320F206 DSP with internal flash memory, designers can implement a complete 1394-compliant storage product interface that offers full-featured performance with the flexibility to handle changing standards. It is a strategic development vehicle for future integration in storage devices.

The 39C1011 controller requires just a single +5-V supply. In operation, it manages incoming and outgoing message packets between an ATA/ATAPI interface and a 1394 PHY, providing full data buffering, error correction and recovery. An internal state machine works under full control of the TI DSP for command decoding and resource allocation. Transfer rates of 100, 200, and 400 Mbit/s can be accommodated, depending on the rating of the TI PHY.

Samples of the 39C1011 are now available.
