AM broadcast band, battery or line power portable.  

Battery powered or line.  This unit is in sad shape.  DBT showed a functioning oscillator.  No stations receivable.  I did not test any further.  This is one of my garage puppies.  Perhaps it will be a student project in my Solder Smoke Burnt Finger presentation.

It has water soluble paint.  Do not Wash.

It is missing the 35Z5 rectifier.  I have one in the garage.

A fresh electrolytic cap bridged across the can cap to suppress the hum and try and get a little sound.

The hum went away, a bit of static from the speaker but...

...no reception.  The good news, Speaker, audio output XFMR should be OK.

Manual movement of the speaker cone reveled some gravel.

This material looks like Book Binding cover type material.  The type used on hard bound books. 

    
         

 

This is a rough radio.  But it should be pretty good looking after restoration. The cabinet is strong, the covering needs total replacement.  A new carry handle is in line.  The only thing that would stop this chassis from playing would be open or burnt IF transformers.  A simple DC ohm meter test should verify the winding's integrity.
